The Membership Manager is a strategic contributor to the Museum’s evolving membership strategy, and manages the day-to-day implementation of all acquisition, retention, cultivation, member events, communications, and member benefits, member collateral, acquisition campaigns, member communications and messaging tactics. S/he coordinates the meetings and activities of the Bishop Museum Association Council (BMAC). The Membership Manager is energetic, thoughtful, and highly personable in nature and values exceptional service, quality work, and personal relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development and strategic plan for the growth of the Museum’s membership program.
- Coordinates monthly membership renewals (direct mail, email). Drafts letter copy for different audience segments, pulls and customizes mailing lists and variable data, and works with print vendor to ensure quality and timely drop of each mailing.
- Serves as primary contact for Bishop Museum members, fields membership inquiries, manages event reservations, coordinates email correspondence.
- Develops and implements membership acquisition, retention, and lapsed member reactivation campaigns.
- Participates in weekly planning meetings and provides reports on membership activity
- Updates membership pages of website and manages all web portals related to membership giving.
- Serves as primary liaison to the BMAC and with Director, provides direction and support for their meetings, events, and initiatives.
- Drafts member correspondence and acknowledgement letters.
- Develops, prepares and tracks institutional advancement’s direct mail pieces in database.
- Coordinates graphic design of membership collateral, signage, and other materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience required.
- Experience in a high-energy nonprofit environment or equivalent.
- Previous fundraising, membership, and event coordination experience.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and coordinate standard professional correspondence and communications pieces.
- Strong communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, excellent time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact with people of all levels and backgrounds
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, prefer knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain composure under time constraints.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve departmental goals
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; warm and pleasant demeanor
Other Requirements
- Must have own car with proof of insurance and valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License
- Professional business-like appearance
- Good Attendance
- Familiarity with Hawaiian or Pacific culture and history a plus
